UPDATE: Ray Bradbury died this morning in Los Angeles. You should read this incredibly moving short essay he had in the most recent New Yorker. Or this little-known travel piece about Disneyland. Also, here's a quick anecdote about him: Yahoo recently asked him if they could publish one of his pieces online. He responded, "To hell with you. To hell with you and to hell with the Internet." Ha, what a cool guy. We'll miss him.We missed you at the Marquis de Sade's birthday party this past Saturday. We went to that paint your own pottery place downtown and made the cutest mugs! It's 54 and drizzling in Southeast New Hampshire today. Summer: IT'S ON. So in honor of summertime, here's a Pinterest gallery (yeah, I know, shut up) of authors wearing shorts. Sylvia Plath and young HST are both babe status. But Jackie Collins is of course my favorite. That's just a very subtle lady.In related subtlety news, Dolly Parton is penning a book based on a 2009 commencement speech she gave.PHEW. Oprah's launching Oprah's Book Club 2.0 you guys! Thank god. We'd all stopped reading right? Right. Now we can resume. First pick is Wild by Cheryl Strayed, a book about a single plucky hiking boot who possesses great fortitude.Check out Grant Snider's Murakami Bingo. It is amusing and accurate both! Here's an NYRB piece about cool dudes Warhol and Lichtenstein apropos of a couple of new retrospectives. But mostly it's an excuse to tell you the title I came up with for a pop art retrospective: Rosenquist and Lichtenstein Are Dead. AMAZING PUN COPYRIGHT ERIN SOMERS 2012.The Awl's got an excerpt from a new comic novel by Jon Methven called This is Your Captain Speaking. Go check it out! Here's another exciting new thing. Exclusively on The Millions, the opening lines of Michael Chabon's new book. Here they are:"I scowl with frustration at myself in the mirror. Damn my hair—it just won't behave, and damn Katherine Kavanagh for being ill and subjecting me to this ordeal. I should be studying for my final exams, which are next week, yet here I am trying to brush my hair into submission. I must not sleep with it wet."JUST KIDDING. Those are the opening of Fifty Shades of Grey. Actual Chabon stuff here. Here's a trailer for the movie version of The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I never read this book because I vaguely thought it was an instruction manual about overcoming your shyness and making friends at high school. Guess not?--Erin Somers
